WWE diva's - I don't get it
Hello everyone, i'm Lumbermill, from Belgium (which means i only have the internet to watch wrestling).
For a while now i've watched the people on this site complain about the "snorefest" the WWE diva's matches are. I know and accept that most of the diva's matches don't come close to the, sometimes excellent, male wrestling, but don't they deserve some credit at least?
As far as i know, there are 20 diva's in the WWE right now. Most of them have some talent in either wrestling or being a valet or manager in my opinion. I'm gonna try to put them in three lists (A = good - B = average - C = bad), not counting crowd reaction. Let's run down the list:
1) Alicia Fox (B)
She's not all that good, but she's still new. I've seen her do a nice tilt-a-whirl backbreaker and her scissors kick isn't all that bad either, so i guess there's hope.
2) Beth Phoenix (A)
Nobody can deny that Beth Phoenix is one of the best in the WWE today. Her matches are some of the best in the industry today if you ask me.
3) Brie Bella (C)
I absolutely DESPISE the bella twins. Brie wasn't bad when she was alone, but the moment Nikki came along and they started doing that switch thing, they should've made them heel or something. Their wrestling skills don't seem all that great to me, but they have potential as valets (i didn't mind them the short time they were with Carlito/Primo and Miz/Morisson).
4) Eve Torres (B)
Why oh why didn't they let her stay with cryme tyme? Eve has improved a lot since coming from the diva search. I thought that handspring moonsault was pretty nice.
5) Gail Kim (A)
Yes, she loses almost all her matches but at least we get to see her phenomenal skill in wrestling. She's good, no matter what you say really.
6) Jillian (A)
Poor poor Jillian. A 5 minute diva title reign is humiliating. However, she's very solid in both wrestling and manager skills in my opinion. Turn her face and give her back that 450 splash and her popularity would skyrocket.
7) Katie Lea Burchill (A)
A lot of potential, a horrible finisher and stuck on ECW. Let's hope it changes now that she and Paul are gone from the land of extreme. Katie Lea rocked in the few matches she had...i haven't seen her botch anything yet. (can't remember it anyway)
8) Kelly Kelly (B)
She really has improved quite a lot. Not championship material (yet) but not bad either.
9) Layla (B)
She would've gotten a C if i made this blog a few months ago, but i think she's decent in the ring now. She can also do "bitchy" like no other woman in the WWE...
10) Maria (C)
I admit it, she's horrible in the ring. Her brightest moment was when she was as dumb as a cow (how sad is that?), but she actually gets response from the crowd for some reason... i don't get it.
11) Maryse (A)
I don't understand the hype around Maryse, but i'll admit she's a good wrestler and a good manager. The question is if she really is worth all that praise? She does have a pretty big moveset for a diva though, and she's awesome on the mic.
12) Melina (A)
I don't like Melina, but she's good in what she does. I liked her more as a manager for MNM then as a fulltime wrestler, but she's more then decent at both.
13) Michelle McCool (A)
Yes an A. She has improved a LOT since debuting. Her moves are mostly solid and she makes a great heel and a decent face too. If only her voice was a bit more tolerable...
14) Mickie James (A)
Mickie is the best.....if she doesn't slack off. These days she's a bit slow in the ring, but she's still easily the most popular diva in the WWE today.
15) Natalya (A)
Natalya is good, both as a manager and a wrestler (not much more i can say)
16) Nikki Bella (C)
See Brie (it rhymes!)
17) Rosa Mendes (C)
When I look at all the C's in the list, I have to say i consider Rosa the best one. She's on ECW now with a nice little storyline romance with Zack Ryder (who i think rules) and to be honest, i don't mind her. She doesn't wrestle much (she doesn't even have the chance to at the moment), so not much i can say about that...
18) Savannah (C)
Who?
19) Tiffany (C)
Who? Well, i do know who she is, but she's so bland that i can't really say anything about her. Why did she pin Katie Lea?
20) Vickie Guerrero (A)
Now that's a heel. I can imagine she has decent wrestling skills too btw. I wonder if people like Brie Bella would still be able to stand if she got a big splash from Vickie...
In conclusion, we have 10 A class diva's, 4 B class diva's and 6 C class diva's. I do believe that's a pretty good ratio. 10 diva's they can use however they want (excluding vickie), 4 diva's which are busy improving, and 6 diva's for all the other tasks (eye candy, backstage interviews, ...). So what's all the hate for? I certainly prefer a diva's match over anything with Hornswoggle, a juvenile John Cena or DX segment, or the whole entrance of R Truth...
