Linda's Thoughts - You Got To Love Raw

Okay I missed a Raw column this week, but honestly I think I did you all a favor. If I had written one believe me it would have been anything but kind. That show was just miserable. In fact I think it rates right up there with the shows hosted by Jeremy Piven and ZZ Top. Those shows were brutal. So I didn’t put any effort into doing a Raw column, but I couldn’t wait to talk about Smackdown. While I didn’t think this Smackdown was as good as last week’s show it was still very good, and there were a few segments that really came off well, in fact they were outstanding.  Smackdown is still out doing Raw even when Raw comes off fairly well. This is the show where wrestling is the showcase and not guest hosts.

If you watched the show, I’m sure right off you know that the segment of the night was CM Punk dressed like Jeff Hardy. Dare I mention how hysterical it was to see some fans jump out of their seats thinking it was the real Hardy? In all fairness I could understand the enthusiasm from the young fans, but it was a riot watching that one woman and kid show so much anger on their face when they saw it was Punk. That alone made this a 5 star segment. But yes, CM the top heel not only on Smackdown but also in my opinion in the company gave one hell of a strong promo. This guy is so on a roll and each week he just proves that Vince did the right thing turning him heel and giving him that World title. I was just in love with this segment and the crowd reaction was excellent. This guy is so over not only in the ring but also with his excellent promos. While Punk did his usual insults aimed at the fans about drinking, smoking and taking pills, he also started up with the Undertaker. The guy looks like he’s already to face the Deadman, which I like a lot because I don’t want to see a Punk that shies away from Taker. Before this was all over Matt Hardy ran into the ring and went after Punk to try to even the score after Punk’s victory sent Jeff packing. This brawl ended a great segment. This is just one of the reasons why I just look so forward to watching Smackdown each week.

Okay so after the brawl Punk was complaining to Theodore Long about what Matt did. And Long decided to make a match between Hardy and Punk. CM was really cool with the match as soon as he found out that it wasn’t for the title. Again CM showed a lot with his facials when Long was talking to him. The first match of the night was Kane and Mike Knox vs. Finlay and Khali. I wasn’t looking forward to this match, but this wasn’t bad at all. However, I have two complaints. One, I wish Finlay would turn heel again. Some of Finlay’s best feuds happened when he was a rotten piece of crap. And two, I think this match could have been just a little shorter, it went on too long for me. But all in all this was a decent match. Well I see Vince McMahon made an appearance on Smackdown. Why? I wish I knew. The whole thing I guess centered around Vince keeping an eye on Theodore Long and oh yeah the pink sports coat that Vince was wearing. Let’s just say this segment really didn’t have to be on.

Oh but wait, it’s the middle school girls, Eve, Maria and Michelle McCool having their usual spat about Dolph Ziggler. This was another segment that I could have done without, but at least this time McCool wasn’t screeching her lines like she did last week. This came to an end when Melina showed up and asked the girls if there was a problem. Michelle looked at Melina and warned her if she touched her she would have her arrested. And if that wasn’t enough drama poor Melina asked Maria about Dolph and Maria told her to mind her own business. I’m so glad we get this soap opera each week, and yes that’s sarcasm.  Ah the match of the night was Rey Mysterio defending the IC title against John Morrison. Oh this was just an awesome match with the crowd right in there. I have to say Rey certainly left for his 30-day suspension on a positive note. I couldn’t be happier that Morrison is now the IC champion. I think it shows that McMahon has a lot of faith in this guy and I’m really looking forward to some great moments for the new champ. This was almost 30 minutes long and believe me it was so worth all the time it got. What a great match and again a match that we got free and didn’t have to wait to pay for. So props to Vince and his staff for putting this on Smackdown.

Wow, Drew McIntyre is two for two when it comes to taking R. Truth out the moment Truth hits the ring. Just like last week, McIntyre attacked Truth and cut another good promo. Drew said that he was making an example out of R-Truth last week because he was overlooked. My favorite line was when he said that the dancing fool has a match and he didn’t. He said that every week he’s going to interrupt our fun until he is recognized as the superstar that he is. So far the guy is still appealing to me, and I can’t wait to see him wrestle. As of now I am thinking that this guy is going to be very entertaining in the ring. I’m happy to say that I enjoyed Eve and Maria vs. Layla and Natalya. For a change this one flowed nicely. You know lately the women’s division on Raw has been rather week, so it was nice to see a decent women’s match on Smackdown.

And finally the main event with Matt Hardy vs. CM Hardy, okay Punk was a good match. But I have to be honest with all of you; I was really expecting a lot more action and a faster paced match. I liked the mach a lot, but maybe I was just expecting anything with a Hardy to be full of excitement. Plus in all fairness I don’t think Matt is 100 percent healed from his stomach surgery. But this was still a good main event, with Punk showing is violent side by doing his best to get rid of Matt by putting his head through a chair and then trying to send him into a post. Well that’s when the lights went out and before you could blink, the Undertaker was standing in front of Punk. Taker then choke slammed the champion onto the announce table. Well of course the crowd loved it. So a 1-minute appearance by Taker, gee I hope he can last longer at Breaking Point. Yes again that is sarcasm because I’m not so sure I’m into a Taker/Punk feud because Taker is off so much. But what the hell I will keep an open mind and see how this plays out. This could turn out to be a very important feud for Punk.

So this was a very good Smackdown with a VERY GOOD performance by CM Punk. Now here’s hoping that Monday’s Raw will rock. I will be there with my son Jason and his girlfriend Penny. I am so excited about going and seeing DX, Swagger, Bourne, and so many others. Oh and of course Bob Barker. God only knows what Bob Barker will bring to the show. Hopefully this will be a fun show, but more importantly a very good show. I will have my live thoughts I promise you either Tuesday or Wednesday. I can’t wait to hear from you guys about how the show was live, so please let me know.

Linda or should I call you Michael Cole you are nuts..... CM Punk the top heel in the company? Did you really say that? Not just a typo? Sure the guy is twice the guy he was as the pathetic face he plays and sure him dressed as Jeff mocking him got huge heat and sure he gave his best promo to date but one night does not make him a top heel..... the fact that he's is pretty much the only heel on Smackdown helps him but he is still miles, no decades behind Jericho and Orton at present not to mention Edge when he returns!!!

I will however say that it was a very creative segment and writing like that will bring him on leaps and bounds... just never ever have him play the gay face he does so poorly! Ever! It seems he is so so so much more comfortable being the badguy. And his straight-edge preaching is making him a hell of a lot more interesting..... am I becoming a fan.... no! he has a lot more work to do in the ring to convert me.... but he has improved alot..... and one thing I love about his push is that having Taker, Edge and Hardy off the show, Vince was forced to put a new guy in play and they have actually put some real effort into this push....unlike his 1st half hearted push!

Raw was indeed a shocking show as a whole but the final match/beatdown was well booked with Rhodes Snr aiding Orton only to be RKO'd with Jnr looking on in shock and disbelief! Great segment! The look from Orton after the RKO was priceless and did so much for future turns from Cody and Ted... who are sure to turn on Randy soon! Now the real top heel in the company has really embraced this almost schitzo persona he plays and boy does he play it well.... if only for more consistant writing from creative then his fueds would be so much better..... look how well his fued with Hunter turned out due to great writing.... but we seem to have to wait for Mania season for the good stuff! Yawn!

It was truely great to see the American Dream as the GM of Raw.... a real wrestling man working the mic and camera so well.... would it be too much to ask for him to book the show for us full time?

Who the fook is this old guy hosting tomorrow??? do we need to see a TV presenter wasting good TV time? may as well give Bruce Forsyth the job the week after! Nice to see you, to see you......

Ahhhhhh Michelle Cole. Again you have stunned me with your retarded ass opinion. How in the world can you say that Monday's RAW was terrible and than last week you acted like RAW was the greatest RAW in a long time. Probably because you didn't get your fix of the 40 year old high school tricksters draining an hour out of the show. The thing is the less their on the better the show actually is. Not so much Shawn but definetly Triple H. Shawn knows that his time has passed and he should be putting over the next generation but Triple H is too much of a glory hog that he needs to feed his own ego by taking up the TV time of the younger guys who should be getting TV time. We had a great Fatal Four-Way for the United States Title which although I disliked the lack of build up it was a great match. We had a very very well booked Main Event with the fans believing that it could be the end of Legacy and than it turned into a trap for Cena. I didn't like the Randy RKOing Dusty just because I don't want the group to end because its never been made into what it should've been but hey it does wonders for Ted & Cody's eventual face turns. Hornswoggle v.s. Chavo sucks but thats a given because its on every god damn week and its always the same. As for your comment about the divas on SD! in a middle school or high school soap opera segment, you sound like an idiot complaining about that and than being a fan of two 40 year old men acting like 10 year olds. I would agree that CM Punk is great but he is in no way the top heel in the company. Randy Orton is the top heel followed closely by Jericho and other than Edge is going to be face when he comes back he would be in third. The only problem with SmackDown! this week was a lack of matches. I was very impressed with the I.C. Title Match but I was disapointed with the fact that Morrison had never been trying to go for the Title and yet he was given a shot over the #1 Contender Dolph Ziggler. I had a feeling that Ziggler was going to become Champ at Breaking Point and its almost a certainty that that will not happen now. So I feel bad for Dolph but Morrison is another great athlete and I think a feud between the two with them exchanging the Title back and forth would do wonders for them, the Title, and the quality of SmackDown!.

True. Heels right now rank Randy, Jericho and then Punk. Punk is improving and i think he has every chance to make it to the top - he needs to beat Taker somehow. It would really help his character.

Jericho is tied up in the tag scene and the other two above are champs... heel shortage? Rumours of a Legacy face turn for Dibiase's movie... what does that do for Randy? I gotta say i think they should stick together, they are a promising faction with lots more mileage, and what should happen is for cody and ted to have top singles feuds, maybe one of them should go after the U.S title. Randy and Legacy can achieve a lot more together as a group, either all faces (unlikely with a heel shortage) or all heels. I'm not sure it would be wise for Vinnie Mac to diminish Randy's menace to plug Dibiase as a face to sell movie tickets.

Just as i type this i thought of a pretty cool extension to an angle i had in another post...

I quit match...
Orton and Cena have a heated match there is plenty of blood boiling... with Orton in the STF, he passes out. Slight confusion... Ref acknowledges Cena as the winner, with Orton out. Cena looks unsatisfied but raises his hand in victory grabs the belt and starts to walk away. Crowd happy. Meanwhile Ted Dibiase comes out with some kind of smelling salts (in typical Marine GI Joe style and uses it to wake up Orton)... Orton, goes to the ref or Vinnie mac or somebody gets the match to restart cos Orton never said those two words... Orton says he wants the belt more than Cena ever could and that it means more to him.. Cena comes back in and match continues, soon Orton has Cena in his own STF (or some other move... what submission does Orton even have??)... anyway Cena battles out of it, gets to the rope... Crowd chant "this is awesome" akin to their reaction to rey v Morrisson this week... Commentators say "something's gotta give. They battle on, match is 30 mins by now... some other superstars make their way to ringside in awe of a great match to see who will be the one to say i quit, there's plenty of top wrestlers out there, heels and faces DX, Cody, Ted, Jericho, Big Show, Miz etc etc. Commentators remark that "neither of these two men will want to say "i quit" in front of their peers"... Lots of submissions, figure 4s, but no-body says those two words. Orton is in worse shape than Cena. But Cena gets frustrated => goes for a chair (probably legal in the match?) but the first time anyone has gone for a weapon. Dibiase and Rhodes try to stop him, and Cena lays them out. Small moment where he's outside with DX, Hunter is heard saying, "you can beat him without the chair." Cena thinks about it but gets into the ring with the chair, Cena goes to work on Randy with the chair. Orton writhing in agony, but still no quit. Orton in a heap. Legacy on the outside also in a heep, but starting to get up. But to win the belt Cena must make Orton say those words, Cena is at a loss as to how to make him do it. He tosses his wrecked chair aside and goes out to get another weapon. Cena grabs HHH's sledgehammer from HHH's hand. Cena gets back on apron, but HHH grabs his arm... staredown...... Cody and Ted are back up and they beatdown on Cena and HHH, Shawn gets involved and so do Show and Jericho... and everyone else there.... Cena back in ring. sledgehammer shot to Randy. Cena (desperate) grabs ref's mic and asks randy the q... Randy looks up and starts laughing, coughing up the blood, "i'll never give up Cena. Your time is over, this is my time. This is Legacy's time".... Cena goes to work on him with the sledgehammer in a furious rage. Brawl springs into the ring. Match stopped - Commentary says, neither man reached their breaking point... Bout announced a draw. Randy still champ. EMT's carry him away on stretcher, to cheers of "Randy Randy"... and Cena is beside himself, cleans the ring with the sledgehammer, all the heels and all the faces too, including DX....

So if my imaginative story comes to pass, Orton and Legacy become Face and Cena becomes super-heel.

Would set up a nice Marine vs Marine match for bragging rights vs Ted (while randy still out injured), and a follow on match at survivor series involving the strap with Cena, Orton, HHH, Shawn fatale 4 way elimination with the only heel being Cena....

This is CLEARLY not going to happen in reality but it would be dam good tv!!

I really don't see the need to turn Orton face.... he is head and shoulders above any other heel in pro wrestling right now and has moulded himself into a very cool and unique character... I loved the IED moment last week when he RKO'd Rhodes for no reason... a cool moment!

The most disturbing thing for me is the face turn of Ted Dibiase! Everyone on planet earth who isn't called Vincent Kennedy McMahon knows that this "straight to DVD" movie has already bombed..... that piece of sh## story didn't sell movie stubs the first time around even with his golden boy as the star!

Dude you're right, Legacy has LOADS more miles on the clock and haven't really gotten going yet..... the idea of breaking them up is crazy, fu##ing bonkers! Ted and Cody must as you said begin rivalrys of their own whilst still a part of Legacy, so the group can dominate the show.... Ted's brother seems to be forgotten about already! They need a 4th member to knit the gap when they do their own thing and Orton's back is still covered! Thats why Evolution worked... they did the main thing of having Hunters back at each title match but they dominated thier own fueds... all round exposure is key!

I beg Vince not to turn Ted face as it would be a crime..... a kick in the teeth of the fans....

The product that is seen on TV  simply MUST come before stupid merchendising schemes.... to damage the on screen product, which is what turning him face will do, over a pathetic b movie would prove to be the final straw for many fans who are sick and tired of the shocking Raw of today... the Guest Hosts are bad enough without breaking up the only stable in WWE at present...
